CURRICULUM:
This year we will be introducing new curriculum topics to year 6. We are very excited about the opportunities we have to explore new and exciting topics! Topics are fluid and planning will evolve as we learn, allowing children to have some input in the particular aspects they learn. Most subjects will be connected to a key enquiry learning question. Please find the current curriculum map at the bottom of the page (this may change as the year progresses)

Curriculum Key Questions
:

Term 1/2: Did British Society benefit from the Second World War?

Term: 3/4: How have natural disasters shaped North America?

Term 5/6: How can we make a difference?

We will be taking part in statutory testing in May next year, however Writing will be internally marked and it will be Teacher Assessment for all subjects that will be submitted to Secondary schools and the Local Authority.

Homework:

TIMES TABLES ROCKSTARS: This is an exciting website/app to enable children to practise their times tables. As there is a competitive element to it, even if your child is secure on their tables,  there is plenty of scope for them to get even faster at recall! Each child will be issued with a username and the password is ABC . Then they just need to head to https://ttrockstars.com/login and put in the school name and their login details.

Your child will be expected to complete daily reading They will also be asked to complete online quizzes as part of 'Accelerated Reader'. There will be an enquiry learning project set each term. There will also be 'Teacher Challenges' linked to maths, literacy or SPAG. Year 6 are expected to complete ALL homework unless otherwise stated.

Trips / Events: Throughout the year there will be a range of trips for Year 6 that will vary due to availability and according to opportunities that are offered to us. For 2016-17 some of the trips we are planning are:

STEMFest at the Aquarium

Life Skills
The Hoe - Brian Pollard
The Farm
Enrichment Week

You will be informed about all trips in advance but for local area trips there may not be a permission slip to return. We would be grateful if you could please be efficient in returning any trip money and permission forms.

REMINDERS:
  • PE kit Thursdays
  • Encourage children to be organised - pencils, homework, reading books, spelling books etc ESPECIALLY for assessment weeks - extra pencils and a water bottle are vital!
  • Any concerns, please feel free to contact us. Email addresses are on the class pages.
  • Term One class novel is Goodnight Mr Tom
  • WAR WEEK - will be the week beginning 10th October with Wednesday 12th October being the day we will be dressing up as evacuees.
